statement

Through my painting, I strive to address the way that color moves through space, and more specifically, through an image. I have an interest in the organic sense of movement that exists within and among forms.

I begin with intuitive expressions, gradually whittling and working these into forms. Although these forms are not figurative, they exist in an environment, taking on an individual identity and developing a relationship with the space they occupy.

I perceive color to be a factual matter with an existence external to the image. Painting, for me, is about the experience of manipulating that matter, and addressing a need to indulge my sense of color and material. I value the freedom to move within a painting without a noun being aggressively present. I aim to convey and express without explicitly depicting, and strive to reach the point at which a painting asserts its own need for being.
